This bar and trattoria at Leopoldstrasse 7 is restauranteurs Rudi Kull and Albert Weinzierl’s latest coup. The name recalls the traditional Café Extrablatt that was once housed here. Nowadays la dolce vita has firmly installed itself. The cuisine is Italian to the ‘t’: mornings are for espresso and panini, afternoons for pasta. Instead of cocktails you’ll find aperitifs paired with cicchetti, or Italian tapas. The midcentury Italian interior is enchanting. Bright colors and wooden wall paneling stylishly distinguish bar from restaurant. Enjoy a cappuccino under the yellow awning on the lush terrace where the friendly wait staff serve in in white, button-down shirts. Bar Giornale is modeled on the café-bars in Milan, a city whose easy-going lifestyle the two friends and owners sought to bring to Munich. They have certainly succeeded. Bar Giornale doesn’t just look Italian, it feels Italian too.
