As you come down Sunset Boulevard, the bar at the Chateau Marmont, fronting directly onto the street, looks a little bit like a wooden shed. But hidden behind the façade is a French bar/restaurant with mirrors, deep-red tasselled lamps, long banquettes, small bistro tables and a bar, combining to form a scene reminiscent of a Toulouse-Lautrec painting. As opposed to the Chateau Marmont itself, everyone is welcome here; what’s more, the meals are cooked in the same kitchen. The Avocado Crab Cake is delicious for a snack; a greater hunger might try the creamy Fresh Sheep’s Ricotta Gnocchi or the Damn Good Burger, a house classic. If you’ve just come for a drink, you mustn’t go past the Chocolate Martini.
