Bosco Verticale translates to “vertical woods,” and is Milanese architect Stefan Boeri’s vision of the future of cities. To be exact, Bosco Verticale are two high rise buildings in Porta Nuova, a district north of Milan’s center. One measures 119 meters in height and the other 87 meters. Both buildings are made from glass, steel, and concrete and house luxurious apartments. What makes it special is that every apartment has a floating garden, with trees up to nine meters high. In total all floating gardens combined encompass 8,900 square meters, with space for up to 20,000 plants and about 800 trees. It is a forest right above the city.
