Even if you are not a wine connoisseur, you have certainly seen these noble labels with animal graphics that look as if they were drawn by Albrecht Dürer: above all the rhinoceros and the majestic lying lion. These are the labels of La Spinetta, a vineyard in Piedmont that has made a name for itself far beyond the Italian borders – especially with its Barolos, Barbarescos and Moscatos. Here wine is made very effectively, but still as authentic as possible, as a modern, internationally operating company allows. If you visit the winery to take part in a guided tour, you will first be amazed that such a large company can be so small and personal. In the mailroom, for example, boxes for the whole world are packed in an unagitated manner. There are also spacious wine cellars, where both mighty wooden barrels for the large Barolos are stored, and metal barrels for the lighter wines, such as the Chardonnays and Sauvignons. And everywhere you go you’ll meet friendly people who obviously love their work.
It’s really worth taking a look at this winery for yourself. You should register by e-mail (mrivetti@la-spinetta.com).
