A visit to the Castro Movie Theater is an unsurpassable experience. The cinema was a hotbed of, who was, perhaps more famously, murdered by a conservative colleague. The sumptuous movie theater has an ambitious program and early birds are treated to organ music from the in-house organ player, whose console rises up from below the stage and descends before the beginning of each film. The music is both entertainment and accompaniment to the regular stream of moviegoers who slowly fill the space to the brim. If the line outside seems endless, have no fear: as soon as the doors fly open, it won’t be long before you are inside.
