Just a short walk from Casa Santo Stefano is the hotel’s namesake – the Church of Santo Stefano. It is located at the highest point of the village and from the church garden you have a breathtaking view over the villages and valleys of Malcantone. The graceful stone church, built in 1634, has an attraction all of its own. It is a place of peace and energy in equal measure. For centuries, women with an unfulfilled desire to have children have made pilgrimages to the church. They light a candle in front of each of the twelve apostles and pray to God to grant them fertility. They have to name their child after the apostle whose candle goes out last.
