The Chora church is a most beautiful example of a Byzantine church and is situated in the Edirnekapi district. The mosaics and frescos inside are one of the most important and complex depiction of the sacred cycles in the world. The church was built in 1320 and then converted into a mosque by the Ottomans in the 16th century. Today it is a museum so you don’t have to keep to any religious rules. The Byzantine church mosaics show the story of Jesus, the life of the Virgin Mary and a series of Jesus’ years of youth. Because the mosaic is preserved so well, it counts as one of the most significant Byzantine pictorial works.
