The station of Atocha is found in the center of the city, at Plaza Emperador Carlos V. The old railway station hall is famous for it’s roof, constructed from iron, steel and glass and built between 1888 and 1892 by the architect Alberto del Palacio Elissague. Since the opening of the new station south of Atocha in 1992, in honour of the world exhibition, the station now contains a tropical palm tree garden and is one of the nicest locations to wait for your train! A glass memorial on the Avenida Ciudad de Barcelona, reminds one of the terrorist attacks of March 2004 the Estación de Atocha.
