Miuccia Prada and Patrizio Bertelli, driven by their passion for contemporary art, opened an exhibition space in 1993 in which exhibitions by internationally renowned artists have been shown since 1995 under the artistic direction of Germano Celant. The Foundation is a non-profit organization with a flexible structure that evolves in the context of various research objects and opens up to questions related to various research fields from art to architecture, from philosophy to science, from design to film. On 31 May 2011, the Prada Foundation inaugurated in Venice the headquarters of Ca’ Corner della Regina, a historic building overlooking the Grand Canal, as a new exhibition architecture. The conservative restoration of the Ca’ Corner della Regina took place in several stages. Frescoes, stucco and stone materials that adorn the portego and the eight rooms on the first floor of the palace were secured. On the second floor, a restoration project was carried out on the walls and stucco and marble decorations of the adjoining rooms.
