If you want to be close to Basel but still avoid the Swiss prices, you should definitely head for the Gasthaus Krone in Weil am Rhein. Weil am Rhein is admittedly a relatively unspectacular village, apart from the Vitra Campus and the Gasthaus Krone. As the name suggests, the Krone is a little jewel. Already run by the third generation, you can see the attention to detail and the mission to make guests feel at home. Meanwhile, tradition meets architecture and design at the Krone, along with international cuisine that is definitely starry-eyed. But we find it most cosy in the snug Stube, which has existed for over 100 years and has been home to people near and far ever since. And when it comes to the rooms, you should definitely choose one of the modern ones in the new concrete building – it’s a bit like sleeping in London or New York.
