Gem Home is a café, day bar and design paradise in one and is Flynn McGarry’s charming project. In the bright, lovingly self-built space between SoHo and Bowery, home-roasted focaccia meets antique cutlery, homemade pickles meet Danish design classics and found objects from all over the world. Because everything here comes from McGarry’s travels: Ceramics from Kyoto, tablecloths from Copenhagen, sardines from Portugal. The small menu changes daily – sometimes there’s a focaccia sandwich with smoked trout, sometimes parsnip cake or cardamom rolls. The ingredients come from Union Square Market, everything is seasonal, uncomplicated and simply delicious. And if you want, you can take a plate or linen napkin home with you. A place to browse, feast, buy and stay.
