The Grotto Pozzacs is the right address for hot summer days, because here the river Lavizzara dams up and forms a crystal-clear pond. In the summer, you can have a wonderful swim here or sunbathe on the rocks. This pond is also the reason for the unusual name. Pozzacs means pond, which is an understatement considering the clear water and the size of the pond. Even if it is too fresh to swim, you can easily spend some time in the Grotto Pozzacs. Only a small road leads down from Peccia, through the forest and to this idyll, which is secluded from civilisation and its noise. As soon as you arrive, the homely smell of fire hits your nose. If you follow it, it leads you to the famous polenta cooking over the fire. It takes two hours and countless stirrings before the house speciality is ready to be served. You can order it in all kinds of variations: with cheese, tripe in tomato sauce, gorgonzola, vegetables, mortadella, codigotto sausage and beans, milk and much more. Besides polenta, there are simple grotto dishes such as minestrone, cheese/sausage platter or pizzoccheri (pasta made from buckwheat flour) with savoy cabbage. Dining is outside at rustic stone tables sheltered by trees or parasols. There is also a rustic interior, but it is not as charming as the terrace.
