If you were going to shoot a film in Cologne, and you needed a cool, stylish 50s set, the Hallmackenreuther would be the perfect location. Enjoy your drinks in Eames chairs that were once used in Cologne’s exhibitions, as you sit in front of the bar with views over the church and Brüsselerplatz. In summer, they open an enormous glass door to create bringing the fresh world outside into the interior. This building used to house a firm involved in the installation trade and these two floors now form the basis of a harmoniously designed bar. Consequently, every detail has been lovingly selected: the shelves behind the bar, the bar itself, the mother of pearl surface of the bar, the plaster ceiling, the lamps inside and outside all gleam with splendour. In this setting, you can drink one of Cologne’s famous beers, and confidently grow old, either talking in the gutter parlance, or speaking normal, everyday nonsense.
