In London it is the pub, in Berlin it is the “Kneipe”. But in the Henne it has always been different. It was one of the few “Kneipen”, where everybody got together to eat half a dairy-fed chicken and to drink beer. Alongside they offer you coleslaw or potato-salad. As an alternative they offer a pair of sausages or rissoles. But the chicken, crunchy skin, with a lovely golden colour, is the most delicious – generations have been wondering how they do it: baked and then fried, or the other way around, or only baked but with a special coating? It remains their secret. Before the Berlin wall came down, people regularly queued up in front of their door. Today, many years after the wall came has down, it is more relaxed. The queue of hungry students has spread out to other districts and you can now enjoy your chicken without any stress. But then it feels as if there is something is missing…
