Right in Karaköy, the most hip district in Istanbul, you will find Vienna’s coffee pleasures mixed with an byzanthine atmosphere at Karabatak. The café is in the former rooms of a hundred-year-old turnery’s workshop. The owner’s unquestionable instinct for trendy industrial style is evident, as can be witnessed in the almost bare walls interworking with other area’s distinctive Islamic-geometrical theme. It’s a pleasant mix of retro-looks, traditional knickknacks, and Vienna coziness. However, the main attraction will always be the vast coffee selection by venerable Vienna coffee roaster, Julius Meinl. Their wonderful coffee is best enjoyed while listening to jazz and sitting outside, in front of the café, under the canopies and vine branches.
