A 15km drive north of Klampenborg up the coast brings you to Rungstedlund. The birthplace and former home of Danish author and explorer Karen Blixen, Rungstedlund has been open to the public since the early 1990s. In addition to the original furnishings, including Blixen’s typewriter, gramophone and a library of her books, a documentary about the life of the author is also shown. The house is surrounded by a park and a small beech grove, planted as a bird sanctuary to the author’s wishes, home to more than 40 different species of birds. At the far end of the park, devotees can pay tribute to Blixen’s grave. A charming garden cafe offers Blixen’s favourite garden salad, sandwiches and fruit cake and an idyllic view over the water.
