For a Romanesque cathedral, the construction of the cathedral San Nicola Pellegrino strives unusually high. It rises majestically on the promontory that borders the port to the north. The front points to the Staufer fort, the three apses to the sea. This magnificent work, built in the 12th century, was dedicated to a Greek pilgrim and miracle healer named Nicola, who died here in 1094. Every year at the end of July/beginning of August, the patron saint is celebrated with great effort, a unique experience! Pay attention to the beautiful bronze portal of the famous sculptor Barisano da Trani, which is today exhibited inside the church
