A trip to the Trulli village of Alberobello alone is worthwhile for lunch at La Cantina. The cosy family wattoria is a true institution. Since 1958, traditional, simple but skilfully prepared dishes have been served here on the chequered tablecloths. Just as one might imagine an Italian family business – Francesco and his wife Laura in the kitchen and brother Gianni in service. If you want to enjoy the homemade pasta with raw zucchini strips, the bitter vegetable Cicoria with Parmesan and Mozzarella or the Orcchiette integrali, you should definitely make a reservation, because the small Trattoria has only seven tables. It’s as familiar here as it is at home at la Nonna!
