La Madia is one of the best restaurants in Sicily and has been an institution on the island for decades. La Madia roughly means a large cupboard of crockery in which all kinds of wonderful things are kept. What a nice anecdote! Behind the restaurant is Pino Cuttaia and his wife Loredana. Cuttaia was born in Sicily but went to Northern Italy as a child. After working in various Michelin award-winning restaurants in the north and continuing to dream of Sicily, he returned to his home, to Licata, and opened La Madia. The restaurant was awarded not only one but two of the coveted Michelin stars. A restaurant for a special occasion.
