Luca Italian in Clerkenwell is run by the boys of the Clove Club. There’s no other way to describe it than that this is a very pretty place indeed. A marble-clad bar, rustic fittings, heavy curtains and polished mirrors on the wall. The menu presents upscale country cuisine. Luca’s Parmesan fries are legendary: wafer-thin, fat-free cheese sticks that have already made their way around London. The philosophy here is “conjure up British seasonal ingredients through an Italian lens”. The prawns come from Morecambe Bay, the grouse from Yorkshire and the langoustines from Scotland. Still, it should be said, Luca is not a place for the small purse, but when it comes to refined cuisine in a design ambience, Luca is the place to go.
