In this Hollywood Boulevard classic, where once Charlie Chaplin and Greta Garbo dined on grilled fish and among Wim Wenders’s favorite restaurants, some of the waiters appear to be as old as the interior with its separees, dark woods, and shimmering light. The aura of good old Hollywood that permeates the locale is only half the story. Just as wonderful today is the mixed clientele that ranges from eccentric, older regulars to hip youngsters. Order one of the meat dishes for which the grill is known, or else fish. But leave the salads and the like, which even today take there cue from the 50s, for example, a pile of tuna accompanied by a few celery sticks and some garnish on the side.
