The Tel Aviv Port (“Namal” in Hebrew) was built under British rule in 1936. Until 1965 it served as a trade harbour and afterwards was closed and left in somewhat disrepair. In 2001 the city decided to renovate the whole northern area of town and to reintegrate it with events going on in the city.
Now the Namal is a very beautiful site sporting a large boardwalk with many different shops, restaurants and an indoor food market. Especially on a summer’s evening a walk in the port can be charming, as artists and musicians help to give the Namal a new life.
