Ten minutes northwest of Ubud lies the impressive Neka Art Museum, named after the Balinese teacher Suteja Neka. The collection includes more than 400 works by some of Bali’s most influential artists and provides a wonderful cross-section of the development of Balinese art. From traditional Balinese paintings in the famous Wayang style to contemporary Indonesian art and historical black and white photographs showing Bali in the years before the Second World War, a collection of wood carvings and bronze sculptures, all of this can be admired here. The pavilions are used for temporary exhibitions and the Museum Cafe is a refreshment stop.
