Gallery owners like Tim Neuger and Burkhard Riemschneider, who came from West Berlin, show how to make the old substance in Mitte suitable for the scene. In their gallery Neugerriemschneider – founded in 1994 – a former factory shed between Linienstrasse and Auguststrasse is being given the high status of young art. Sculptures by Tobias Rehberger stand on chic asphalt flooring; Rirkrit Tiravanija shows film portraits of successful artist colleagues; and most recently Ai Weiwei showed root sculptures that at first seem apolitical but were full of explosive power. A must for all art connoisseurs.
