Since the 1940s the glorious, old-fashioned beach hotel Casa Malibu stood here. Now investor and Hollywood star Rober DeNiro had it demolished. Ever since torches can be seen flickering on the beach and strings of lights are dazzling along Pacific Coast Highway. Everything is big and fancy in the Japanese Nobu Restaurant chain’s new location. The ocean and the Malibu Pier can be seen from every seat in the modern establishment. While it is all very upscale, it lacks a bit of soul. However, the Japanese specialties, for which chef Nobi Matsuhisa is famous, are fantistic, and that quality comes with its price. In hopes of perfecting the Japan experience on the California beach a concept hotel is planned.
