The Oranjezicht City Farmers Market was, without exaggerating, one of the most beautiful markets in the world. From the picture book estate of the historic Leuwenhof, the market has now settled at Granger Bay on the V&A Waterfront and every Saturday brings a mix of street food and farmer market to life. In the midst of a tent filled with bales of straw, locals and tours as well as young families with children, a unique scenery takes place every week that makes the market a must-see during a stay in Cape Town. Unfortunately it is only open on Saturdays. Behind the stalls, independent local farmers, chefs and private artisans sell their passionately made goods. You stroll from stand to stand, stock up on fresh local fruit and cakes, buy some flowers for home and then drop on the bale of straw with a smoothie, a banana bread, a fine granola or a tarte of rosemary and plums to watch the hustle and bustle. You can’t get tired of all the beautiful people, delicious things and so lovingly designed details and you just don’t want it to go by and you want it every Saturday.
