There is no fish fresher than Corinna Boato’s! After all, her father and grandfather are fishermen. The former still goes out on Lake Maggiore every morning to catch fish for his daughter’s restaurant. The restaurant is located directly on the lake in Corinna’s grandfather’s former boat cellar, so the fish actually comes straight from the water into the kitchen, where Corinna’s team turns it into, for example, octopus carpaccio, soup with crayfish and fish balls or the house speciality, salt-crusted fish. There are not many restaurants directly on the lake that are not overrun by tourists and do not offer poor quality at overpriced prices – so-called tourist traps. Osteria Boato is definitely not one of them, despite its excellent location. Especially at lunchtime, it mainly attracts the local population, who enjoy a glass of white wine and a trout in the sun. The interior of the former boat cellar is simple but beautiful: whitewashed walls, vaulted ceilings, plain wooden furniture. There isn’t much space inside, but there is on the terrace, which is unfortunately a bit of a let-down with its plastic furniture, but the location on the lake makes up for it.
