If you go to the Ostu Di Djun, you have to be aware of the fact that you have to give up any control at the door, and that you have to get fully involved with the eccentric owner Ciano. Because, there is no menu, the food is simply served. But it’s fully worth it. Together with his daughter and wife, he serves the guests, while Mama Francesca has sovereignty in the kitchen. The first rule in Djun is abundance. Even the wine is only served in magnum bottles – and it doesn’t matter how much or how little you want to drink, the bottles of the best wineries are simply on the table. In between the daughter comes with a large bowl full of colourful cutlery and you can choose – pink knife to blue fork? The kitchen offers classic Piedmontese dishes such as Vitello Tonnato and pasta with truffles – all absolutely delicious. The difficulty lies in leaving enough room for the ingenious cheese selection: The huge wooden board presented at the end is full of excellent cheeses. The selection is made quite easy: Ciano asks you if you prefer “Mäh” or “Muh” – the whole thing is a giant spectacle of the senses. At the end you pay at the bar. It’s not quite clear which system is behind it, but you should be prepared for a price of about 50 Euro. The restaurant is full of locals, so everything seems to be going according to plan. You have to make a reservation.
