The old-established Pastelaria Conventual Pão De Rala is an institution through and through in Évora and lies in the southern part of the small, easily accessible city centre. Behind the bar stands Maria, who is known far beyond the city limits for her luggage. Beside the traditional white-blue tiled walls of the café, decorated with dark wood, hang portraits of famous guests who have already enjoyed their coffee and one of the sweet treasures of the bar. One should with a clear conscience do without the hotel breakfast and come here for breakfast. Beside the typical Pastel de Natas and all sorts of other sweet specialities from the Alentejo, especially the cake made of layers of egg dough and nuts is a poem!
