The Punta della Dogana, also known as the Dogana da Mar, is a museum of modern art in Venice, located at the tip of the island of Dorsoduro – where the Grand Canal and Giudecca Canal meet and merge into the San Marco basin. The Punta della Dogana is housed in the buildings of the former customs house of the Republic of Venice. On the roof of the building is a gleaming golden globe supported by two atlases, above which rises the rotating goddess Fortuna, who is moved by the wind. The museum has existed since 2009, after Japanese architect Tadao Ando was commissioned to carry out the restoration work. Incidentally, behind the museum is the French fashion tycoon François Pinault, who also owns Palazzo Grassi and is a renowned collector of contemporary art in Venice. A must-see for all lovers of modern art!
