Norman Foster’s architectural trick of genius rises above the London skyline like a huge pineapple. The 180m high Swiss Re Tower, with its unity of geometry and organic natural shape, is definitely one of the most beautiful skyscrapers in London. The main criteria in the planning were formal elegance and environmental-wholesomeness, which today contribute to the incomparable aura of the building affectionately christened by Londoners as the “erotic gherkin”.
