A visit to the National Museum Tokyo requires some perseverance and cultural will, but especially for lovers of Japanese art, this is the first address. The museum was founded in 1872 and is the oldest museum in Japan. Based on this long tradition, the largest part of national treasures and important cultural assets is preserved, more precisely 2,642 objects. But that was by no means all. The museum’s holdings comprise over 110,000 cultural assets. The regional focus of the collection is on Japan and the surrounding Asia. The museum’s collection is therefore not only impressive in terms of its size, it is also definitely Japan’s most important collection.
