The Torvehaller Markethall in the Norrebro quarter of the city offers Danish products of the highest quality. The first weekly market took place in 1889 on the Israel Plads only to degenerate into a parking lot by the 1950s. The creation of the Torvehaller took up where tradition had left off taking its cue from other European market halls. More than 100 stands offer everything from organic wines to local agricultural produce, dairy products, and baked goods. At lunchtime expect a rush: the sounds, smells, and colors lure locals and tourists alike to try the market hall’s delicacies.
