The Trattoria Il Pompiere already looks like an Italian restaurant from a picture book. Salamis and ham hang from the ceiling. The walls are wallpapered with important personalities from culture and politics, chequered tablecloths – of course – and waiters, who carry out their profession with dignity and have done so all their lives. The rooms are full, which is also due to the dense tables, and you immediately feel at home. From pasta with porcini mushrooms, a Bolognese to Osso Buco, there are the classics from the region. The portions could be a little more generous and the ugly square plates unfortunately replace the beautiful old plates with the fine rim on some dishes. All in all a very good choice in the heart of the old town of Verona.
