The Volkshaus in Basel has been an institution in the Swiss art metropolis for decades – a go-to place to eat, drink and see and be seen. Now local Basel architectural luminaries Herzog & De Meuron have conjured up some 30 hotel rooms in the historic 14th-century building. With great sensitivity, they have created a harmony between the historical substance and modern elements. The result can be described as cosy, minimalist, cool, noble and artsy. You can look forward to spacious, light-flooded rooms. And best of all, for an aperitif and dinner you only have to go downstairs to the Volkshaus Brasserie.
