Parkhotel Egerner Höfe

Set back a little from Lake Tegernsee, tucked into its own park, you’ll find the Parkhotel Egerner Höfe in Rottach-Egern. Close to the water and yet wonderfully on its own. Plenty of light wood, soft natural tones, big windows framing the Wallberg. In summer a proper garden idyll with long hours outside and walks among the old trees; in winter a little wonderland, especially when you warm up afterwards in the Mangfall Spa. The 20-metre pool lets you swim from inside to out, plus there are saunas and the new cryo chamber. What really stands out at the Egerner Höfe: the team. From the front desk to the kitchen, everyone sees themselves as a host – charming and without any fuss. And when it comes to food, this place is something special anyway: at the gourmet restaurant Dichter, Thomas Kellermann cooks with an audible love of experimenting. He plays with unusual flavours and textures and likes to source his ingredients straight from the valley – char from Lake Tegernsee with smoked almond, say, or Poltinger lamb shoulder with red onion. Comfort food, reimagined. Things get a touch more down-to-earth in the Anton and Alois parlours, and the KostBar is the go-to spot for guests and locals alike. An utterly perfect weekend getaway!

Visiting in July? Mark the 12th: that’s when the hotel park turns into the “Summer Garden Party”, with Kellermann cooking alongside fellow top chefs. A day full of fine food, wine and summer spirit against the Tegernsee mountain backdrop.
