Museo Sa Bassa Blanca in north-eastern Mallorca is a stunning example of how the passion of two collectors (and artists!) for each other and for art can become a vibrant place. Yannick Vu and Ben Jakober, now 83 and 95 years old, have collected on their countless travels around the world that even in Mallorca, the Medina is rare. What a fabulous place to unwind on one of the numerous terraces, bathe in the moist mist of the in-house hammam, leave the tourist crowds at the weekly market in Artà behind and mentally retrace the coastal path into the sunset at Cala Mesquida, Estreta, Torta or Cala del Matzoc. The view of the surroundings is spectacular. All the staff are incredibly friendly. Hotel operator Markus Friedrich brought some of them with him when he took over the hotel in order to preserve its soul. The plan is to expand the hotel to 20 rooms in the future. He wants to give the place more space. He is delighted with his many regular guests, which is no surprise. Full-blown fine dining is a thing of the past, but the excellent menu still has a spectacular twist. Bring on the roasted cauliflower and negrito on Serrano foam!
