House of Josty

Right at the edge of the Frederiksberg Gardens stands a building from 1824, once a confectionery that found its way into the kitchens of the Danish royal family, today known as House of Josty. After the founding family departed in 1937, the building passed through life as a restaurant, a hotel and an event space, before Emma turned it this summer into a charming six-room bed and breakfast with a café. Sofas by Gubi and chairs by Frama sit alongside vintage side tables, and in the foyer two 19th-century paintings of the gardens hang exactly where they always have. Breakfast and lunch bring home-cooked, nonna-style dishes such as tomato tartine or chicken confit, much of it from the property’s own farm in Humleore. A path leads straight from the terrace into the park. House of Josty carries a lovely sense that time has simply stopped here, which is exactly what makes this jewel what it is.
