Rotwand Miramonti

A mountain hut just as you’d expect from Carmen and Klaus of the Miramonti! At 1,818 metres, right in the heart of the Meran 2000 hiking and skiing area, the pair have created a brilliant spot at the Rotwand. South Tyrolean designer Harry Thaler is responsible for the design, giving the mountain restaurant a modern, laid-back look. Outside, there are sun loungers, parasols and plenty of fresh mountain air. Christoph Huber from the Blaue Traube has developed the culinary concept. The menu features homemade cheese spaetzle, ribbon pasta with beef ragù and crispy potato rösti – all locally sourced, thoughtfully prepared yet still traditional. The biscuits with the coffee are simply spot on. The little cabin is particularly lovely; here, you can enjoy raclette with potatoes, kimchi vegetables and farmhouse bacon with friends. And then there’s another real highlight up here. Klaus Alber has realised his dream of having his own coffee roastery. At the MONTI Coffee Roastery, at an altitude of 1,818 metres, speciality coffee beans are roasted – making it one of the highest-altitude roasteries in the Alps. The climb is well worth it just for a good espresso! From Falzeben, it’s about a 40-minute walk uphill. A wonderful outing, even for those who aren’t usually keen on mountain hut hikes.
