About 20km south-west of Copenhagen’s centre is the Arken Museum of Modern Art. The grandiose building by Danish architects Søren Robert Lund takes inspiration from a ship’s hull, embedded in dunes by the seashore. The museum shows images, sculptures and video installations by modern Danish, Skandinavian and international artists. The often quirky temporary exhibitions appeal at times to a wide audience, and at others to a more niche art scene. Also of interest is the Arken Café, whose building hangs like a giant lifeboat from one side of the museum. A great spot for post-art coffee with a wonderful view of Køge beach.
