The mountain inn Sonnbühel, founded in 1924, cannot only call itself the oldest ski hut in the world but, thanks to star chef Echart Witzigmann, can also be considered “one of the best restaurants above 1,000 metres”. After a long history, filled with numerous prominent visitors, a new era on a gourmet level began in 2016 with the takeover of the legendary ski hut by the South Tyrolean Ivan Marzola. Marzola comes from a family of successful restaurateurs and wanted to reinvent alpine gastronomy by bringing the best of Bella Italia up the mountain. He definitely succeeded in doing this. With two renowned chefs at the top, the culinary Champions League can be felt and tasted. In a nutshell: definitely worth a visit.
