The Borough is definitely a food highlight in Edinburgh. Located in Leith, an area that has become a worthwhile destination for foodies, Darren Murray and his wife Aleks organise everything outside the kitchen. What immediately appeals to us is the friendly neighbourhood atmosphere and the Scandinavian-inspired interior. The menu is correspondingly relaxed, unagitated and to the point, usually only revealing the ingredients. But don’t worry, you can trust the chef: Zuchini tart with nasturtium and black olives, beef tartare with egg yolk confit, mussel and cucumber tagliatelle or oysters with tomato and bone marrow are interpreted here in a modern way using regional ingredients. There is also an extensive selection of wines and local beers. Good music plays on a record player in the background and you are looked after by eager staff.
