Bridges in Chinatown is the place where fine dining is at its coolest right now – casual, elegant and surprisingly accessible. Behind the kitchen is Sam Lawrence (ex-Estela), who shows how much pleasure can be found in reduction. The dishes may sound simple – “Comté Tart”, “Grilled Oysters” – but they are perfectly balanced and full of sophistication. The buttery Comté tart with chanterelles or the uni custard with sweet shrimp, which tastes almost like a French cheesecake, are particular highlights. And then there’s the atmosphere, which is of course also cool on point – a bit Parisian vibe, a bit 80s, but very now. Tip: the bar is reserved for walk-ins, making it ideal for a spontaneous dinner with a view of the action.
