Carrières de Lumières

Not far from St Remy de Provence, on the way to the Carrière de Luminière, one first has to drive through wonderfully rugged landscapes. The sand-coloured rocks are picturesque and impressively beautiful. The former quarry was brought back to life by a film by Jean Cocteau and since 1977, illuminated multimedia art productions have been staged here.
When one enters the huge halls in the middle of the mountain, one is immediately drawn into the spell of a breathtaking spectacle by the projected images and sounds. Even the floors are illuminated. Thus the spatial boundaries merge and one is right in the middle of a sensual experience in the truest sense of the word. It is the most beautiful way to experience art and a real must for every visit to Provence.
