Nowhere else in the world, except of course in India itself, can you eat Indian as well as in London. The Dishoom is one of our absolute favourites. Both the interior and the menu are inspired by the Iranian café culture in Bombay in the 1960s. Here Art-déco meets Art Nouveau, a marble bar, dark wooden chairs, plaid tablecloths, framed photos of the owners in sepia and poems in Hindi on the floor-to-ceiling windows. Waiting times are to be expected, but they are sweetened with Chaitee and the menu compensates with authentic Indian cuisine – Lamb Raan, Black Daal and freshly baked Nankhatai. And for dessert, don’t miss the cinnamon ice cream!
