Some years before the village church in Straupitz, 1820, Schinkel designed another masterpiece – the Schinkelkirche in Großbeeren. It was commissioned by Friedrich Wilhelm III and was a gift from him to the village on the occasion of the battle that took place here in 1813. It is a neo-Gothic plaster building with classicist form elements and an impressive glass painting as well as a three-lane altar window, designed by Carl Busch.
