The Gasthof Blocks Post is the oldest inn in Krün and has attracted King Ludwig II on his way to the Soierngebirge in the past. The owners have given the house a rejuvenating treatment in which they have shown a sense of tradition: Clay plastered walls in the Gamsleiten Stube, exposed walls, restored oak floors, a built-in historical bread oven and modern, stylized farm furniture in the parlours. The wood piles up next to the fireplace on the bright red painted walls. The whole thing is a “family affair” between a father and his sons: Chef Josef Block, son and barman Josef, and son and confectioner Bernhard, who bakes pizzas in his special oven that taste like original Sicilian pizzas – also because they are baked outdoors in summer. A Bavarian cuisine with a Tyrolean touch is served in the restaurant and the veranda called “Freisitz” by the Blocks. Ochsenbackerl, Renken and all that with a focus on seasonality, freshness and local ingredients with game from the Karwende, fishing from the Walchensee and beer directly from Mittenwald. The dishes are cooked to a high point and change regularly. Recipes long forgotten are rediscovered again and again. By the way, you are not allowed to leave without having tried the homemade ice cream with pumpkin seeds!
