Già Sotto l’Arco is a high-end gourmet temple that no one would expect to find in the sleepy little village of Carovigno. A parallel universe, yet traditionally furnished with a French twist and pleasantly coherent without being sleek, which in Puglia is the idea of classy. The cuisine is simply on point and delicious, but that also comes at a price, especially in relation to restaurant prices within the region. The primi’s all cost around €28, secondi’s around €34. The portions are small, but not tiny. Still, €5 less per dish would simply fit better in this region than prices like in Paris and London, where wages and rents are different. But the family restaurant has had a Michelin star for years and has its own winery. The whole family is involved. Teresa is the chef and her husband runs the restaurant and takes care of the guests with a small team.
