Behind an unassuming-looking door at the end of Kingsland Road in Shoreditch, Jasper Morrison’s shop and design studio sits in a quiet courtyard. The British designer opened the shop in 2009, inspired by his exhibition Super Normal in Tokyo, seeking “a continuation of the contact the exhibition gave him with everyday, useful things”. The shop is small, but an oasis of brilliant design. The imaginative display of products – practical, everyday treasures that are both functional and beautiful – gives the space a workshop-like feel. No wonder, since the shop is an extension of the design studio next door. Work for Alessi, Vitra and Rosenthal is on display, as well as collaborations with Camper, Emeco and Maharam – you’d love to take it all. This is a hidden gem in the heart of Shoreditch and a must for design lovers.
