Feel like you’re on the cover of a gala on Formentera! You can only do that at Juan y Andrea. A wonderful place for the rich and beautiful with a high celebrity density and very good fish dishes. It all started very small. For years Juan and Andrea looked after the deserted, tiny, neighbouring island of S’Espalmador. Much later, in 1972, Juan, a fisherman from Formentera, had the idea of earning extra money by opening a small beach restaurant on Formentera’s most beautiful beach – Platja de ses Illetes. At that time, their beach shack could only be reached by boat and was difficult to access, so it quickly became an insider tip. Juan went out to sea to fish, and Andrea prepared typical, simple dishes from the fresh catch. Even today, many guests drive up in their yachts and are then chauffeured ashore in the restaurant’s own motorboat. The somewhat dishevelled four palm trees have become the restaurant’s emblem and, incidentally, are the only palm trees on the northernmost, pointed tip of the island. Simple wooden tables stand in the sand. Nowhere is the water clearer or the colours more Caribbean than at Platja de ses Illetes. The waiters walk barefoot through the sand in white T-shirts and white trousers. An exclusive, lively, not entirely inexpensive jet-set restaurant has emerged from the improvised beach shack of the seventies. The sea bream (dorada a la sal) and sea bass (lubina a la sal) in sea salt crust are outstanding.
